Props & Foley's 'rehearsal'

March 3, 2019

Hey guys, I have very exciting news to share with you all! Now that the team and I have constructed our outline and storyboard, we want to move into the next big thing. This jump consists up the development of props and foley sounds that we’ll be essential for each scene in our film opening.

Foley Sounds
Sound is extremely important. It’s not about just including sound, but when, around what, and how it sounds (how it’s created). I was able to get valuable information from Recording Foley and Sound Effects: The Fundamentals which explained to me that microphone selection for the creation of these foley sounds is extremely important. We are going to be using a hyper-cardioid condenser microphone which was recommended by this article which will allow us to get the best sound. This type of microphone will allow us to not pick up any other type of irrelevant sounds that will interrupt our production process.

Clock ticking/Pencil tapping
A close up shot of the clock will be shown which we’ll create a ticking sound that lasts up to the shot of the psychopath sitting in his deck. He will be sitting there with a pencil tapping on the desk with a tapping noise of the pencil as well as the ticking in the back that my team and I will be able to create. We are still not sure how we want to create this specific sound.

Water dripping
A shot will be placed in between the the clock scene and the person in his desk that will show water drops. This will help our film opening have more intensity with the help of the clock sound. We will be creating this foley sound by flicking my cheek during a certain mouth movement.

Door SLAM
As in one of the scenes the mom leaves the room of the psychopath teenanger, she slams the door in her way. We want to create this door closing hard sound by letting a book fall from the chest height to the floor and hitting the floor with the book’s full surface. This will really help us create that type of tone where things aren’t going alright.

Props

Headstone
The team and I have recently gotten the idea of having a headstone during the first shot of the film opening. To challenge ourselves, we want to be able to create and design this headstone by ourselves! This video down below will help us with that whole process.

Fake blood
For some scenes in our thriller film opening, blood will be essential. Thanks to How to Make Fake Blood we found the one of the best ways to make fake blood.

Ingredients:

1 tablespoon of flour

1 cup (240 ml) of water

2 tablespoons of red food coloring

Dark cloth
For this we will be going to Party City store or any other store that we can purchase dark clothing for the actors which will be extremely required for the whole family with the same clothing.

Until next time guys! :))
